  • Winner of the Energy Global Awards for New Zealand December 2021 – Energy Globe Foundation, Austria. The Whangawehi Catchment Management Group won the National Award in the Water category. Due to travel restrictions, a ceremony will be held in the new year.
  • Finalist at the International River Award Oct 2019 – International River Foundation , Australia. The Whangawehi Catchment Management Group was selected with 2 other projects as finalist at the International River Awards hosted in Brisbane-Australia. Unfortunately, the WCMG didn’t win the top award.
  • Winner at the Asia Pacific River Awards October 2018 – International River Foundation, Australia. The Whangawehi Catchment Management Group wins the top environmental Awards in the Pacific category.
  • Whangawehi is finalist at the prestigious New Zealander of the Year awards, February 2018– Auckland New Zealand. These awards celebrate individuals and groups for the way they are making a difference to their communities and to our country. The Whangawehi group had been nominated in the community section and progressed to the final three in their category.
  • Supreme winner of the Green Ribbon Awards, June 2017 – Ministry for the Environment – New Zealand. The Whangawehi Catchment Group wins the most prestigious environmental Awards in New Zealand after the 4th attempt!

  • Top winner in the water category at the Green Ribbon Awards, April 2017 – Ministry for the Environment – New Zealand. The Whangawehi Catchment Management Group wins the top price in the “caring for our water category” at the most prestigious environmental award in New Zealand.
  • Rae Te Nahu is awarded a local hero medal at the New Zealander of the Year Awards for her work as a volunteer in the Mahia Community, November 2015 -Kiwi Bank, Gisborne- New Zealand.
  • Winner of the National Award at the Pride of New Zealand Awards in the environmental category, Sep 2014- Kiwi bank. WCMG lead by Kathleen Mato won this prestigious National Award in the environmental category.
  • Supreme winner at the Trust Power Environmental Awards, December 2013 – Trust Power, New Zealand. The WCMG wins the supreme award for the Wairoa District.
